It was a gift from his father and the start of a lifelong love of trains. Walthour was years-old and in love. He had met Peg at age Walthour was set up on a double-date with his buddy, Bill.
But neither couple hit it off; instead, Walthour went on to date and then marry Peg. There was never a Christmas without a train under the tree. Walthour sets the train up every five years, alternating among other trains in his collection. Walthour said he continues putting out the trains under the Christmas tree because of nostalgia. The trains bring about fond memories. As a boy, he would visit his grandfather and two of uncles, all of which had worked on the railroad, to see their trains set up underneath the tree.

I became disabled a few years back and started refurbishing erector sets. I bought my first one and got hooked. I now have a few of them Yes I realize their limited run, warping of the body, decomposition of the wheels, etc. I realize that they were never intended to last a hundred years. But am I the last of the Mohican’s on this line? Are the locomotives relegated to end up as book ends?
Am I nuts to care? There are folks that enjoy prewar trains like American Flyer’s O gauge line.
